On The Road

In two ways –

1. On the road …. To recovery &
2. On the road …. To London!

The weekend was pretty evil – the radiologists did say things would get worse before it gets better. The were right! My list includes permanent indigestion, a tennis ball in my throat, nausea, dizziness. That’s enough! 🙂

I have managed to sip tea and eat very small amounts of food. I made some broccoli soup for lunches and added some grated cheddar for protein and soggy croutons for carbs. I’m doing my best in quite difficult circumstances.

Things, as they say, can only get better!

Today we spent a short time in town – I nearly drank a whole cup of coffee!

We have also planned & packed – we are going to London tomorrow for a three day trip! It’s going to be fun! Apart from the fact that I have to be up at 6.30am – which is about 4 hours before I’ve been getting up this weekend! 🙂

I may be grumpy!

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Fifteen of Fifteen!

Done it! All fifteen sessions of radiotherapy done and dusted!

I haven’t escaped unscathed – I have ‘sunburn’ from the radiation on my head, back, side, chest and forehead, I have no hair left, I have a tennis ball in my throat that makes eating extremely uncomfortable and I have permanent indigestion – bit I’m here, I made it! 🙂

Rocking the bald sunburnt look!

We went early to Exeter to have a look around the shops and went ape hunting!

There are several around town – aren’t they great? This one was not far from Carluccio’s where we stopped for coffee and shared a strawberry tart.

We sat on the sunny side of the street!

Treatment done, I left the radiographers with a box of chocolates and we skipped out of the hospital!

Now I can look forward to all the side effects gradually getting better over the next 2 – 4 weeks. Next Tuesday we go to London for three days – getting excited now!

Tomorrow we are parting with hubby ‘s old car – now we are both home we don’t need two cars. My car is much newer, and will also go when the new Audi arrives, so we will keep that one until then. It will be sad to see the Rover go though.

Have a smashing Saturday!

Happy July!

July already! I wonder when summer will start?

Irrespective of the chilly weather, we paid a short visit to the beach today.

We had a walk around Westward Ho! as hubby had a dentist appointment in Bideford. That warranted a walk on the beach and a wander around the shops at Atlantic Village.

And coffee of course! Not my favourite coffee shop, but it was needed and the only choice!

Chilly and grey today, but we made the best of it.

Pretty foxgloves in the hedgerows at the moment – along with wild strawberries – yummy!

Tomorrow we see a new doctor – the radiotherapy specialist. We should get to know what, when and why. I must say I am looking forward to the next stage of the journey to keep the cancer at bay.

Have a terrific Tuesday, and happy July!

Run a Bit, Walk a Lot

Finally we got out in appropriate clothing to start running again. Hubby has new shoes!

First – this morning we did the shopping, first popping into town for some bits and bobs and coffee!

And cake! Strawberry cheesecake to be exact – it was lovely!

Then on to Sainsbury’s for food shopping, then home. The showers became few & far between mid afternoon so that’s when we ventured down the lanes. Met these ladies too –

I think they were staring at hubby’s new shoes! 🙂

Tomorrow they are forecasting rain, so I may have to sit and read a book!

Have a smashing Sunday!

A Week at Home

A whole week spent at home! That’s some sort of record I’m sure!

Wednesday we went to the Art Group in the evening and had a nice buffet followed by a talk. This month it was a ceramicist chap who gave a really interesting talk on his life and work – some fabulous pots! He doesn’t live far away, so we have made a note to visit his studio and shop.

Yesterday was hospital day. I had a CT scan having drunk a load of stuff and had dye pumped into a cannula. Results on Tuesday next week when we see the oncologist. Fingers crossed, touch wood & all that! In the evening we played badminton for an hour and then popped into the village pub!

Today we went into town for a bit of shopping and to top up the caffeine levels!

I have also finished reading my latest Stephen King novel (brilliant!) and we went for a walk.

Tomorrow is shopping day!

Have a smashing Saturday!

Today has mostly been spent on my bike! I’m not a great cyclist, and it must be at least a year since the bikes saw the light of day, but it was so much fun!

We piled the bikes into the back of the car and drove to Torrington when you can get on the Tarka Trail. Our cunning plan was a slow poodle to Bideford and back. Being an old railway line it is flat-ish so fairly easy cycling. The sun shone and we set off at a steady pace.

The views were fabulous and the miles ticked by.

There were faces in the trees too!

We made it to Bideford for lunch and cycled through the town to the lovely Cafe du Parc for coffee and shared a ham & cheese baguette. Lovely!

The cycle back was harder – mainly because I was tired and my bum hurt! But – we made it! Good job really as the car was there!

Dinner has been baked cod, mashed potato and braised leeks. I was starving!

Tomorrow – I have a feeling I will have trouble walking!

Have a super Sunday!

Bit Tired!

Oh boy! This round of chemo has been a bit naughty! I’m so tired! My head has spun, teeth hurt (!), can’t taste anything and could happily spend all day in bed. Hopefully things are getting better – I could do with a bit of energy!

Yesterday we plodded out for a walk around town and I managed a lovely strawberry & vanilla frappe from Nero’s – lovely! I could taste it! It was cold yesterday though, so we didn’t spend long outside. We watched the sunset from the lounge!

Today it seemed warmer so we headed to the beach! Westward Ho!

Complete with Hocking’s ice cream and a shiny new blue flag.

I love the beach huts too – so pretty!

After a stroll we headed back to do the shopping and then home for some sitting down in the garden! That’s me done in now!

Have a lovely evening and smashing Sunday!

Such a lovely day again – the sun has shone all day, but the wind has been a bit nippy!

Today was spent mostly shopping! We went into town and bought a few bits and bobs, including a pair of jeans for me as my favourite pair have now got a hole in the knee. We had the usual coffee at Nero’s to keep us going!

We did the food shop and then came home and pottered about in the garden. We finished the afternoon with a walk around the block.

The sky was a fantastic blue, with tiny fluffy clouds all in a line over Exmoor.

All the dandelions are changing too – so pretty!

I have no idea what tomorrow will bring, but first – the exciting episode of Dr Who – hopefully we will find out who Clara is! Then …… Eurovision! 🙂

Have a smashing Sunday!

To the Beach!

It’s been a lovely sunny day – well, it was before about 4pm when an almighty thunder storm hit!

We made the most of the sunshine and headed off late morning to see the latest art exhibition at the Burton Gallery in Bideford. Quite interesting! It was prints done by Picasso, Matisse, Dali & Warhol.

My favourite was Dali’s ‘Blue Owl’ – amazing what can be done with a biro and scrubbing circles!

All that culture was exhausting – coffee and cake required! Mmmmmm!

Suitably feed and watered, we headed to the beach to walk it off!

Beautiful day and Westward Ho! beach is so lovely to wander along.

Finally we called at the supermarket to pick up a few bits so I could make a curry – I made ‘Chicken with Fried Onion Sauce’ and a cabbage & pea side dish – all from Madur Jaffrey’s Indian Cooking book. Scrummy food! Full now! 🙂

Tomorrow – hoping for more sunshine and a bit more shopping.

Have a scrumptious Saturday!

Tidy Garden

Today has been spent watching men work! 🙂

The garden guy’s came back today to put up the new fence they made for us. It looks fantastic!

They have done an excellent job and an old broken down arch:

Has turned into this:

It’s taken them just 2 days and a million cups of tea and coffee – but what a difference!

In other news – I did very little again today, being confined to the house whilst the guys were working apart from a quick trip to the doctor for some more tablets and a quick chat about my progress with the chemo. He is very happy with how I am coping and is hopeful that the prognosis is better than originally thought! Go me!

Tomorrow I might go shopping!

Have a terrific Thursday!
