Tag Archives: Walk

It’s been a chillin’ out kind of weekend. I can’t say I’ve sat and done nothing, but everything has been done at a typical Devonian pace – slowly!

I’m still covered in red blotchy spotty stuff – head to toe – so much for antihistamines! It itches a bit, but not too bad, thankfully.

Yesterday we did town, coffee and shopping and then went for a short around-the-block walk.

Lovely day! I really love days when you get those little white fluffy clouds.

Today I have faffed around the house before putting in the beef to roast and heading out for the same walk again. Get me!

There be dragons! 🙂

And food! Mmm – autumn is so lovely!

Tomorrow I go into work for the last time to have farewell drinks. Not sure if I’m looking forward to it or not. Ho hum.

Have a marvellous Monday!

Last Working Day

Happy to report my eating is finally back to normal! Phew!

Sad to report I have a rash! Not sure what it is, but I have red spots all over – mainly arms and legs though. I have seen a doctor and now have industrial strength antihistamines to take. I’m sure it will go as quickly as it came.

This week has been spent mainly at home, apart from a couple of trips to the doctor and last night when we played badminton for an hour.

I’m doing just fine!

Today is my last official working day – as of tomorrow I am ‘retired’. Circumstances have bought us here – but it is nice not to have to work. My pension isn’t huge, so some budgeting will be needed, but we will manage.

To celebrate – a picture of my Geko!

Have a super Saturday!

Home Sweet Home

It’s been really nice bumbling about at home – looking at the webcams it seems Devon is full of visitors! Not the time to be out & about! I think we will wait until they have all gone home.

The past three days my eating has gradually improved day by day. Yeah! Yesterday I made some caramel I’ve cream with a whole “share” bag of Cadbury Caramel Buttons in! I had some at lunch today & it is scrummy!

We have done some walking too – our usual circuit each day and wildlife spotting!

Mr (or maybe Mrs) Cricket.

A lovely Peacock butterfly. And today ….

Mrs Moo! She was so lovely and let me stroke her nose! How wonderful is she? 🙂

Tomorrow we are home again!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Nice to be Home

It’s been really nice to get back into an ‘at home’ routine. Yesterday we did shopping and stocked up the fridge and cupboards, today has been lazy!

At Sainsbury’s yesterday I finally saw my first piece of ‘Art Everywhere’.

Strange seeing this in a car park! The best was on the other side – Holbein and Hocking’s! 🙂

Today I got up late – I’m sure sleeping is helping with the healing. I am eating a little more each day, so that is great news. On the up! I weigh myself each week and have been a wee bit despondent during chemo as I managed to pile on an average of 2 pounds a week! Now I know why they do radiotherapy second – you lose a pile of weight because you can’t eat! Last week I lost 3 pounds, this week I lost a further 3.75 pounds. I’m close to my pre-treatment weight now!

Today I ventured out for a walk – slowly! 🙂

I met Jiminy Cricket –

Bit weird isn’t he! And we scared some sheep!

They ran like crazy just because we looked at them from the lane!

I watched the F1 Grand Prix and then rounded off the day by making a beef stew (with red wine) and dumplings. Yummy stuff! I ate a whole dumpling and some meat and four bits of carrot – mega eating for me!

Looking forward to a whole week at home now.

Have a marvellous Monday!

Lazy Weekend

Oh – how I have enjoyed no radiotherapy! My head is very grateful. It itches like crazy and my whole forehead is almost red raw – but it is getting better!

Yesterday we did a spot of lazy shopping then I did a lot of lazy watching of the athletics – good old Mo! 🙂

Today we spent the morning faffing and stuff – I picked the rhubarb and stewed it before stirring in some strawberries to make a lovely compote. This afternoon I shifted my posterior and we went for a walk whilst the lamb roasted.

I rubbed the lamb with crushed garlic and rosemary in olive oil, added some water and tightly covered in foil. It sat in the oven for three hours!

My fav shot is a puddle shot of the beacon:

Eating was quite painful – well – swallowing is, so I ate modestly. I may raid the ice cream later!

Now I am back on the sofa watching the athletics again. Joy!

Back on it tomorrow – my last 5 days of radiotherapy to the chest. I’m counting down the days.

I hope you have a marvellous Monday!

It’s Arrived!

It’s a Dali darling!

Much measuring, levelling, drilling and tapping later –

It is a signed limited edition etching of ‘The Judgement of Paris’ by Dali. Signed by the man himself! I can’t get a good picture with my trusted iPhone, so this rubbish one will have to do!

This afternoon we went for a walk in the sunshine – the promised rain has not materialised here as yet.

It’s still hot!

I also got a call from the hospital with yet another appointment on Thursday, so I now have three! The first to make a mask for my head radiotherapy, the second as a verification for my chest radiotherapy, and finally a third for a new head CT to enable them to map the radiotherapy. It will be good to get those done and treatment started next Monday. Not knowing how it will affect me is not good – I’ll be happier when it’s started and we get an understanding of what happens!

Tomorrow we will probably potter around again, weather permitting! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Back in Cornwall!

We managed to bag a 3 day last minute break in a self catering apartment in Polzeath!

It’s been hot, but we have done a lot of walking.

Plus lots of water drinking and paddling!

The evening sun here is just lovely – I have taken a million pictures!

Hubby says he will paint one – no doubt that will wait until it cools down a bit!

Home tomorrow via the hospital for my head CT scan – fingers crossed it is all okay!

Have a fantastic Friday!

Hot, Hot, Hot!

Phew! I’m not complaining – but it’s a bit warm around here!

I’ve done very little beside drink coffee and tea! Yesterday was shopping day, so today we headed for the cooler weather at the beach.

There were people camped out on the beach, but far less than I expected given the weather.

We had a lovely walk along the water’s edge minus shoes, then headed inland to get an ice cream. Yummy!

It was just nice by the water, getting into the car to come home was like climbing into an oven!

In other news, I’ve gone blonde!

I really like it, shame I will lose all my hair again with the radiotherapy – but never mind – it should grow back!

We have also booked three days away in the week – Tuesday to Thursday in Cornwall. The fine weather is set to continue, and I’m set to enjoy it by the sea!

Have a marvellous Monday!

Quick Holiday

Sorry to have been a bit lacking on the blog front!

On Tuesday we popped down to Cornwall for two days staying at the Metropole in Padstow.

We had a lovely room and great view!

We did quite a lot of walking and paddling to keep cool!

We also took a trip on the Jubliee Queen!

We saw puffins and seals! So cute!

We ate quite a lot, but we also walked miles, so that isn’t too bad.

Yesterday we left the hotel at mid day and headed straight to Exeter hospital where I had another CT scan and got three dots tattooed on me in anticipation of starting radiotherapy in a couple of weeks.

We saw the consultant again and chatted through the plan, in addition to the 15 days of treatment to the chest tumour we agreed to a further 10 full head treatments. The down side is that I will lose my hair again, but the up side is good evidence that it can prevent tumours forming in the brain. Evidently there is a 60% chance of lung cancer spreading to the brain, but preventative radiotherapy can reduce that by half. I am happy to do anything reasonable to do what I can to get better odds!

Today we popped into town and I drank this!

I could do with more of those! Fabulous!

Tomorrow is probably shopping, but we’ll see. Have a super Saturday!

Happy July!

July already! I wonder when summer will start?

Irrespective of the chilly weather, we paid a short visit to the beach today.

We had a walk around Westward Ho! as hubby had a dentist appointment in Bideford. That warranted a walk on the beach and a wander around the shops at Atlantic Village.

And coffee of course! Not my favourite coffee shop, but it was needed and the only choice!

Chilly and grey today, but we made the best of it.

Pretty foxgloves in the hedgerows at the moment – along with wild strawberries – yummy!

Tomorrow we see a new doctor – the radiotherapy specialist. We should get to know what, when and why. I must say I am looking forward to the next stage of the journey to keep the cancer at bay.

Have a terrific Tuesday, and happy July!
