Weights

Brrrr!

Hello!

Chilly isn’t it? 🙂

Work again today, and when I went out to the car this morning it was minus 3 and I had to spend several minutes with a scraper. I hate doing that first thing in the morning. It was a beautiful sunrise though – I even thought about stopping the car and taking a photograph, but I didn’t – it was cold out there!

Work, then at lunch I took a walk into town to get some exercise. Still cold, but I used the iMapMyWalk app on my phone, which drove me on to crack on and keep moving. I did nearly 3 miles in just over an hour – which has to be better than sitting on my backside in the office. I had yogurts and lemon for lunch (and quite a lot of chocolate which I will not mention).

Meetings all afternoon, so I was ready for home when that time came. When I got in, hubby had done dinner – gammon, salad and some new potatoes – bless him!

I have done some strength training by way of push ups, squats, dumbbell side bends and curls and calf raises. That should counter some of the chocolate anyway!

I am working at home for the rest of the week (yeah!) and then on holiday next week, so the next time I have to drive into the office is not until 14th February! Go Me!

I am really hoping to get some plodding in over the next few days.

Have a lovely Wednesday!

Last Holiday Day

Hello!

Evening already – where did the day go? I really hope tomorrow flies by as quickly as today has done! Back to work tomorrow – can you believe that?

No run today – it has rained and hailed all day long so I have just done my strength training and I am calling that enough. I have done push ups, calf raises, step up’s lunges and squats and even dusted off the dumb bells and did some arm exercises. My shoulders will ache in the morning!

This morning I made myself a necklace out of the beads I bought on holiday, now I am a real surf dude! Nalu beads are just beautiful – I have three now, one for each of the three beaches we have surfed already, and now have the perfect excuse to go surfing at other places so I can collect more beads!

Lunch was soup and a slice of bread, and then a bit more organising ready for back to work day tomorrow. I think I have done all my chores, and sorted out most of my files.

Dinner was baked salmon and salad with a couple of new potatoes for carbs. Very nice, but I’m betting that I will be hungry again in an hour or so!

Lunch is packed for tomorrow, and on the table is a banana, apple and an orange just in case. I’m ready to start the year well at work – I just hope my boss has the same idea! :o)

We have had a wonderful Christmas break, and done a lot of tidying in the house too, so all in all, a great time was had by all. Now it’s back to reality.

Have a terrific Tuesday folks.

A Bit of Plodding Does You Good

So they say – although right now my leg has other ideas!

Someone nicked a whole hour of my life! Honestly – they have. Last night I got up to make my last decaf drink at what I thought was 10pm. We usually go to bed at 11pm, so I allow an hour before bed. I put the kettle on, coffee in cup, and came back into the lounge to a very puzzled hubby. He asked what I was doing as it was nearly bed time. It was actually 11pm!

Today I have been lucky enough to work at home. I have a big report to write – a review of where we are in delivering our IT strategy. It’s actually very interesting, but requires a lot of concentration and allowed this morning to pass in a jiffy. Back to salads for lunch as my tooth hole is healing nicely. I made a nice plate of salad with a few squares of feta cheese, and then had a bowl of lemon yogurt for dessert. That finished my big pot of yogurt that I made last week, so as I type I have a new batch “cooking” in a flask! Cherry this time – I have a feeling it is going to be lovely.

This afternoon has flown by, and I’m still missing that hour because as hubby suggested it was time to finish work and go far a run, I’m thinking it was only about 4pm with plenty of time, but it was actually 5pm! Who nicked my hour?

So, plod time it was. i did rubbish. My leg hurt, a lot, all the time. I can’t wait to get back to the hospital and some one to fix it. My appointment is the end of next week. It can’t come soon enough. Still, 2.27 miles plodded, so 230 ish calories bite the dust.

Dinner was salad again, a posh one this time with all sorts thrown in a bowl, and fish – some nice smoked mackerel. Made a nice change, but not my favourite!

Tomorrow I have to go into the office for meetings, so that’ll be a slow day. I have salad all made, and a pot ready to put some of my new yogurt in, and a chunk of fruit and nut flapjack for breakfast or snack – what ever I fancy really.

Time to do my weight training now. I have given it a miss for about a week – it’s going to hurt! 🙂

Have a terrific Tuesday.

Weigh Day, Sunshine and Surfing

Weigh In Stats:

Weight last week – 10st 1.5lb
Weight this week – 10st 0.5lb

Weight loss – -1lbs
Total weight loss – 17.5lbs

_______________________________________________________

What a great day it has been! Amazing was a bit of preparation and planning can do! Plus – I lost another pound, which is fabulous. I have a mini-goal of reaching 10 stones (140lbs) and I am now so very close to that! Next week I will get there.

The weather has been kind today, a bit breezy, but still sunny and quite warm. Although we didn’t get up too early, we made the decision to hit the beach after checking out the web cams and surf report: http://magicseaweed.com/Westward-Ho!-Surf-Report/1351/

I then faffed about doing the accounts and housey things before a quick lunch of feta cheese and salad. After lunch I did all the prep for dinner, did the carrots, brocolli and cabbage, made the Yorkshire pudding mix and popped it in the fridge, and prepared the beef, double wrapping it in foil so it could slow roast while we were out. Beef in the oven just before 2pm and we headed for the beach.

It was very windy and loads of people were out kite surfing – they look amazing, but I’m not brave enough to try that! We donned our wetsuits and headed in with our body boards. Waves were just about okay, enough to have a giggle with anyway, although a bit more power would have been perfect! 🙂 We played around for an hour and a half before completely exhausting ourselves and headed out for a quick change and a Hockings icecream. Absolutely delish!

Home, wetsuits washed, hair washed and dinner started. Having it all prepared meant it was just half an hour to wait!

I’m happily tired now, but still have my weights session to do. I may leave that for tomorrow, or I may give it a blast in a while – I’ll see how it feels when dinner has gone down.

Back to work tomorrow. Happy days!

Best Day of the Week

I love Friday’s – they are the absolute bestest day of the week. Except (there’s always one of those) when you are on holiday when it means the end of something good.

Today I have worked at home again, which means loads of stuff done – including quite a lot of research for me, plus a later start and early finish as there is no one hour journey each way. It’s great to finish at 4pm and be finished – not have another hour to go before you’re home.

I had a great eggy salad for lunch, and made hubby poached eggs on toast for his – we both really enjoyed it – we don’t eat enough eggs and always love them when we do!

This afternoon we plodded – just the usual short 2.3 miles out of the village and back again. It is a nice circular route that is mainly a single lane track, but up up up to start – the beauty of that is the down down down at the end! 🙂 I ran/walked it and swore several times at my bad leg, but made it and was really happy to get out for half an hour.

Dinner was curry – “Friday night is curry night” in our house! I made some Lamb Keema and limes with pitta bread – absolutely lovely and very welcome after our run.

Tonight is weights night. It’s my last set of Stage one – Workout B. It looks like this:

B8 – Day 16 – Date: 12 Aug 2011 Reps Weight Used
Deadlift 8 20kg
Deadlift 8 20kg
Dumbbell shoulder press 8 13.6kg
Wide-grip lat pulldown 8 13.6kg
Dumbbell shoulder press 8 13.6kg
Wide-grip lat pulldown 8 13.6kg
Lunge 8 13.6kg
Swiss-ball crunch 15 4kg
Lunge 8 13.6kg
Swiss-ball crunch 15 4kg

Good stuff – I can really see the difference in my arms and quads – they have real shape now. I can’t wait to move on to Stage 2 – it looks pretty tough, but then Stage 1 did when I first started.

Really looking forward to some downtime this weekend. I’m hoping for some reasonable weather so we can get to the beach and do some surfing – fingers crossed!

Weigh Day, Long Run and Weights!

Weigh In Stats:

Weight last week – 10st 5lb
Weight this week – 10st 3lb

Weight loss – -2lbs
Total weight loss – 15lbs
_________________________________

Yeah! I am past the one stone lost mark!
Busy day, all of it aimed at making me lighter or fitter or cleaner. The day started pretty late and I set to to get the house reasonably clean. I did the hovering and dusting, which took me through lunch (a quick salad and parma ham) and beyond. I finished the cleaning and started on dinner prep as we were aiming at leaving the house at 3pm for a long run.
Beef in slow roasting, carrots, broccoli and cabbage all done and ready. At 3pm it started to rain, but that wasn’t going to put us off! Rain proof caps on and out the door for a very slow 7.5 miles. It felt like mainly up, but I guess the up’s equalled the downs. We haven’t been for a long run since our 10k in London at the end of May so it was a real struggle. By mile 4 I was shattered! The flies were out in force and followed us nearly every step of the way – they got incredibly annoying.
The last climb home was a killer, my legs were jelly and I had stomach cramps. Bad – but I made it home in time to dive in the shower and finally get clean. Dinner was on, Yorkshire puddings in for hubby, and veg done. Starving! It was most welcome.
I have now tarted my hair, ironed it and feel almost as good as new. Just finished my weight training:

As you see, the reps are down, so the weight goes up! I managed all of it, and I’m feeling really quite strong – which is great.
Today I have been working at home, so another lovely day was had. I actually had some breakfast today, such is the excitement at having carbs today! I had a bowl of strawberry yogurt with fresh strawberries and blueberries. Yum-me!
Lunch was parma ham and salad, followed by a banana. That kept me going nicely and when we headed out for our trip around the block at around 5pm I still wasn’t starving. Maybe breakfast is a good idea!
The run was good, 2.27 miles in 28:13 – no records set on fire, but my running bits are far more frequent now and the pace of them is good – I actually went into the 8.xx minute miles at some points during the run. I’m starting to get the footfall/breathing combo in sync, and when I do get it right, it feels great. Even with the walking bits, the second mile was an 11 minute mile! Go Me!
Dinner was lovely, salad (again!), but with a twist. I made a tomato and red onion dish with balsamic (probably not ED but it was only a drizzle), a pickled cucumber dish, a green salad with lots of mint and flat leaf parsley from the garden, and a few new potatoes. We had some nice beef slices with it too. I’m stuffed! Happily no weights tonight, so I can relax a bit before Torchwood comes on. I love that programme!
Tomorrow – another day at home, and a lamb curry to cook for dinner which I am looking forward to already! I know it should be a fast day, but with everything planned it isn’t going to happen, I’ll fit it in later.
Have a fabulously frivolous Friday folks!

Better Late than Never

What a great day!

As for today, I went into the office as usual and endured a couple of meetings this morning before cutting free and off to a local café to meet a couple of colleagues and good friends (same people – they are both!). Sat with sparkly water and we talked a bit of work and a bit of pleasure. Great to catch up with them.
I then drove home for the afternoon working here – always makes me feel better. I finally got through to BT after finding my email had been hacked and used to send spam – bad people! Actually – that isn’t so great, but the rest of the day has been so good I don’t care!
I got a goodie parcel from Lakeland – it included some “cup” measuring thingies so I don’t have to faff converting US recipes. Jubbly! Free with those came some very pretty measuring spoons – they all look great hanging in my kitchen and I’m looking forward to using them. I also got a yogurt maker – yummy! I’ll have to wait a day or so before I can test it out, but I’m really looking forward to proper yogurt with no baddies added!
Late afternoon we went off for our run/walk/run. It was great. I have my fingers crossed when I type this, but the leg wasn’t half as bad today – I’m wondering if the interval training and weight training is helping. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but I’ll take it while I can! My runny bits are getting longer – I ran all the way from Red Post to the bottom of the hill, and then from half way up the hill all the way home with no walking! Brilliant! Loved it!
Home for dinner of roast ham, cauliflower, peas and carrots. I was so hungry I enjoyed all of it. Tummy is grumbling now though – it’s busy! :o)
Tomorrow I am working at home again. Joy!
Have a great non-pancake day Tuesday folks!

Not so Fast!

Today was supposed to be a fast day – not fast as in quick, but fast as it don’t stuff anything into your mouth until dinner.

I failed.

No excuses – I got hungry – all around me were eating – I caved in and had some salad for lunch. Ho Hum. That’s life. Happily I have already picked myself up and dusted myself off. It’s just one measly salad and it ain’t gonna kill me. All food has been ED, no sugar no nothing on the banned list. That’s fine.

I was at the office today, more meetings, more stuff added to my To Do list. I did succeed in reorganising my diary to get an extra day at home this week – so I’m really pleased with that – I can crack on with some project work.

No run – plenty of wind and rain and left work too late, but that’s fine too as we have run for three consecutive days now so a rest was in order. Weight training day today too – so I will be doing that shortly when my dinner has settled. I’m really looking forward to doing that – I have high hopes for getting stronger which can only help my running and dodgy leg.

Tomorrow I am back in the office in the morning, lunch meeting with some friends, and then hopefully home for the afternoon. All is good.

Have a terrific Tuesday won’t you?

Different sort of day

Well today didn’t quite go as planned, but we had a good time anyway!
The weather forecast said that it would be rain this morning, sun this afternoon, so the plan was to have a bit of a lie in, faff about this morning, then shopping on the way to the beach and do some surfing.
We got a lie in and I faffed about with defrosting the man fridge and one of the freezers, then lunch of salad again, this time with some parma ham. Then off to the shops with freezer box in hand. Shopping done, on to the beach. The waves looked very messy and when we got out of the car we realised why – it was blowing an absolute gale! The onshore wind meant it was flipping freezing too. We took a short walk and then back to the car and headed home for a run instead.
We did the same run as yesterday – 4 miles of up, up and a bit more up! I hate that route. I know what goes up must come down but it really doesn’t feel it when you’re running! My quads screamed in tune with my calf, but I ran/walked/ran as best I could. I got a bit more running in today, and the runny bits were sub 10mm so all I need to do now is string those together a bit more. It’s hard though, and I am pushing myself as hard as I can.
Home, shower, food! Thai prawn curry again – a Saturday staple as it’s cooked in 20 minutes from start to end. We ate the biggest pile of stir fry veg with it and I enjoyed every mouthful.
Since then I have sat a bit, and then did my weights:

Did better today with the weights, and I completed all the sets, so an improvement on last time, so I’m happy.
Another low carb day, so I am sat here munching on cashew nuts! I must not eat too many. I must not eat too many. I must not eat too many…
Just seen a sign photographed on another blog that I am going to adopt – it said:
A yawn is a silent scream for coffee” Love it!
Have a sweet Sunday folks! Carb Day! :o)
